A Welcome Birthday Guest

Those of you who know me or have read my blog for a while know that I’m not very religious. I don’t talk about it often, if at all, and usually when I do, its only with my mother.

I will admit, I have been a little lax in discussing God with Connor.

First of all, our life has pretty much been chaos for the last several years. Secondly, I couldn’t figure out a way to explain it that would make sense to a little kid. And last…the thought of bringing a kid as noisy and hyper as Connor to church was enough to make me feel sick.

My Great Aunt Dorothy passed last week. I realized I would be bringing the boys to her Celebration of Life service.

While Connor was in the tub Sunday night – with my Catholic guilt over having put it off for so long singing happily in the background – I tried my best to explain to him who God and Jesus are.

I told him that God made everything – the earth, the birds, the fish, the trees…everything alive, and that God is invisible and lives in Heaven. Then I explained that Jesus is God’s son, and he also is invisible and lives in Heaven with God, and that they both love us all very much.

I then told him that mamma’s Great Aunt Dorothy had passed away and had gone to Heaven to live with God and Jesus and watch over us and to help keep us safe.

Fast forward to last night, when we were discussing his upcoming birthday party. We’ve decided to have his party at Pump N’ Jump, and I asked who he’d like to invite to his birthday party.

“Grace and Max, Kelsey and Sadie and Joshua. Oh…and the son of the guy that made us!”

I love that kid!

My kid really said this #2

Kindergarten is finally starting to be okay. Drop-offs are no longer a public-tantrum-causing-catastrophe, and Connor’s teacher no longer has to meet us at the front door.

I have managed to gradually get him to the point where I can stop walking about 10 feet from the front door and wave goodbye, and wish him a fun day.

Every day, I give him a hug and a kiss about 20 feet from the door, and when I stop and wave, he says “bye mamma! I’ll try to need you!”

Damn, I love that kid!
